Saint Louis Public Schools (SPLS) in Missouri is rolling out a new Web-based communications and collaboration portal to help improve communications between schools and their communities.

The United States Department of Education is awarding $6.61 million in grants to eight states to help improving reading achievement among poorer students. The monies will fund a range of programs incorporating research-based methods and tools, including education technologies, to help deal with “the challenges of poverty and reading below grade level.”

Collaborative professional development, or the “teacher learning teams” approach, is behind a program being implemented at Battery Creek High School in Beaufort, SC. Pearson is underwriting the use of its Learning Teams program at the school for one year in order to showcase its potential for student improvement.
